This webinar will raise awareness of how hypnotic techniques can be integrated for chronic pain management in everyday clinical settings. Key speaker, Dr Mark Jensen has many years of practical experience in the application of hypnosis for pain and has conducted extensive research in this field, published over 550 papers and book chapters on pain assessment and management and is the author of 10 books including ‘Hypnosis for Chronic Pain Management, Therapist Guide’.
Dr Jensen will give an insightful talk on the subject and then a Q&A session where delegates can pose questions.
Dr Jensen’s talk will discuss and present evidence regarding the efficacy of hypnosis for chronic pain management and the implications of this evidence for chronic pain treatment. It will be begin by reviewing findings regarding the prevalence of chronic pain and the limited treatment options available for addressing this significant problem. Evidence supporting the specific effects of hypnotic suggestions for changes in sensory experiences on brain activity will be reviewed. The findings from two clinical trials evaluating the effects of training patients with chronic pain in the use of self-hypnosis for pain management will then be presented. This will be followed by a presentation of the results of a recently conducted clinical trial evaluating the effects of using hypnosis to enhance the beneficial effects of cognitive therapy for chronic pain (“hypnotic cognitive therapy”). The talk will end with a discussion of the clinical implications of the findings from this body of research.
