You may be aware that the Royal Society of Medicine is running a series of webinars entitled ‘Hypnosis for Pain’.
Some of you will have attended the first talk in December and will be looking forward to 29th January when we have as our speaker, Dr Elvira Lang from Harvard and author of ‘Patient Sedation Without Medication’
I would guess that any clinician has performed a procedure which caused the patient to suffer pain. We would prefer that the patient could be comfortable throughout but usually we assume some suffering is inevitable.
Dr Lang has looked into the skillful use of language and suggestion to minimise discomfort in the performance of these procedures.
Clearly, this is something we would all be interested to learn about, whether you are a nurse, a dentist, a GP, a paediatrician, an anaesthetist, a surgeon, a health care assistant or any clinical practitioner involved in patient care.
